Washington Metro Youth Sports Contributing Writers

We need sports parents to write for sports parents! Our job is to put together the best current wisdom out there on issues parents care about. In our own experience, a lot of that can be heard in conversations on sidelines from Gaithersburg, to Candy Cane City, to McLean, to Jelleff's, to the Ellipse, to Bowie.

Our Discussion Forums, Events Calendar, and eBin Classifieds help everyone get connected. But we also want to provide longer form space -- articles -- for contributions from members whose own experience and knowledge provide good information.

What are we looking for? Game results? Standings? All-star teams? No: we leave that to (and link to) league sites and others who track all those competitions.

We're looking for what parents are looking for: what you may already know about or have good experience with, to share in the main thematic areas we've set up to organize the site:
  • The Growing Athlete - the sprinting, tackling, leaping, cutting, sliding, juking young human growing up
  • Life on the Sidelines - parents' many roles as chauffeur, nutritionist, exhorter, consoler, social manager; the nuance of the games
  • Leagues and Clubs - formation, administration, management, fundraising, policy development
  • College Center - your boy or girl athlete doesn't have to be all-Met, all-county or even all-league to find a place on a college team if he or she wants to pursue one.

Parents often look for youth sports-related answers only because a situation pops up in front of them: an injury; a bad grading period; a move into a new town; odd behavior by a coach (or, God forbid, another parent); a pleading offer to coach a team or manage a league; terrible field conditions; continuous great play by a son or daughter. All of which lead to the question: "Now what?"

sportsparentpotomac.com is here to help answer such questions. We don't believe they can be well answered without contributions from parents who've been there before. So we not only welcome but encourage your contributions.
